How to Install Shiva 3d sample as Standalone in Ubuntu?

Hi!
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64 bits, but i can't run Shiva3D samples with the Standalone Player. I want to run a 3D ShiVa3d Sample as Standalone, not in a web Player.

My computer:
Processador Centrino Duo Mobile: Intel Core 2 Duo.
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. (I have not installed Proprietary Linux nVidia Driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.36.run)
Resolution:1200*800

Standalone Player: S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1.tar.bz2 ( ShiVa3D Player 1.8.1, LINUX, NOTE: Please close any web browsers To install ShiVa3D Player 1.8.1 now, press ENTER)???

Please can You explain me how to install "The Hunt" or other sample as standalone, Step by Step. I will reeinstall Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.

you are using /trying to use the nouveau driver.

Any 3D functionality that might exist is still unsupported. Do not ask for instructions to try it. But you can read GalliumHowto in case you are brave enough.

I reinstalled the UBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) 64 bits, with proprietary NVIDIA driver.
Now I want to run a 3D ShiVa3d Sample as Standalone.

The Hunt Example : http://www.stonetrip.com/download/TechDemo/ShiVa3D-TheHunt-v1.5.tar.bz2

Can You explain, step by step, how do I install the "Standalone Player" and "The Hunt" example or other Example as standalone, not with web player.

the driver part looks fine now.

there is a binary called "TheHunt" in the download directory you should be able to double-click it and it should run. if it does not, open a terminal, cd to your TheHunt-directory,

chmod +x TheHunt
and then

standalone installation

you do not really need to install anything to make it work (that is, play STK packed games). you simply need to drag e.g. the hunt.stk onto the shiva engine binary like in this video, http://broozar.someserver.de/radeon2.mov (1st half is webplayer, 2nd half is standalone).

however, if you want to permanently install the binaries to your file system, there are 2 ways i would recommend:

1. the "official" way.
- download the shiva player pack as you already did, extract.
- run the install shellscript, your files get copied somewhere (/usr/local/bin/)
if somewhat gets funked up/if you see nothing more than the "press enter", cd to the directory first where you extracted the installer files.
- run e.g. the hunt from the command line terminal:

/usr/local/bin/S3DEngine /path/to/your/game.stk


2. the "community" way.
- download the community installer: http://www.stonetrip.com/developer/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=21711&start=0 and extract.
- run the installer (double-click the install-shellscript) and do what it says. check the part where it says "add to PATH".
- reboot
- to play a game, open a terminal and enter

I chose the 1st way. But nothing happens.

1) I installed 3D Player Standalone: S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1.tar.bz2
cd ~/Downloads
tar xjf S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1.tar.bz2
cd S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1-Linux
sh ShiVa_Install.sh
"press enter"

S3DEngine is in /usr/local/bin

2) Running "The Hunt" Sample.
cd ..
tar xjf ShiVa3D-TheHunt-v1.5.tar.bz2
cd TheHunt
cd TheHunt_Datas
/usr/local/bin/S3DEngine TheHunt.stk
bash: /usr/local/bin/S3DEngine: No such file or directory

Any Idea?
What Ubuntu do you use: 10.10? It's possible the Player Standalone don't run in Ubuntu 10.10?

of course you have to run the installer with administrative rights, otherwise the script won't be able to write to /usr.

sudo ./ShiVa_Install.sh

besides the installing part, does the hunt game run now (see previous post, chmod +x )?

ps. i know that the official installer is strange, i didn't write the community installer for nothing. if yo are willing to give it a shot, i tested it with ubuntu 10.10 x86, not x86_64 though.

Today, I made a very conservative installation, Ubuntu 10.10 32bit, an old Nvidia Driver, none actualization of Ubuntu , etc...

I installed with the ShiVa3d Player "community way ": s3d_linuxInstall-190.tar.gz

and It works.

I Played "The Hunt" and others Games.


Thanks Boozar, Now I'm going to try another type of instalation.

Hi!

The Good News: In Ubuntu 10.10 32 bits I installed successfully the 2 installer Player (s3d_linuxInstall-190.tar.gz and S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1.tar.bz2). In the two cases I ran well "TheHunt" game.

The Bad News: In Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits I can't install any installer Player (s3d_linuxInstall-190.tar.gz or S3DPlayer-1.9.0.1.tar.bz2) .

"neilb" installed s3d_linuxInstall-190.tar.gz successfully in 64 bits, I don't know how he did it?

what do you mean, "the same problem"? are you referring to the install procedure or the 64 bit ubuntu not running theHunt?
in the second case, all shiva linux apps are 32 bit binaries, and the depend on 32 bit libraries. run

ldd /path/to/your/app

to check for dependencies. you should see a lot of unresolved ones.
to be able to run the app on your system, make sure you install i386 libraries

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

and if that is not enough, install libc6-i386 as well.

running i386 apps on x86_64 ubuntu is cumbersome at best.

Thank you a lot, I searched everywhere but it seems you are the only one saying we must install those libraries to make S3DEngine work with a 64 bits Ubuntu, otherwise S3DEngin error code is not revelant, it just says : No such file or directory - Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type.
Now and after restarting Ubuntu it works. :D

our latest linux engine builds include 64bit engines for linux, so you will be able to run shiva games on 64bit linux distributions that don't have ia32-libs equivalents, like fedora, in the very near future.

Well that's made it EASY!

Just built and tested a fairly involved app on linux 32 and 64, within a couple of minutes I went from editor to nix machines and the app worked perfectly on both exactly the same as on win, all file and network stuff just worked.

One dev codebase, many targets; ShiVa is so nice, brings me joy to deploy to many platforms so easily, the novelty of that never wears off for me! :D
