How about including a captcha, both when registering and when logging in?
I'm specially happy with KeyCaptcha, which can be branded for some $20.
It has worked for me

happened.
when i went to bed, everything was still fine.
i hope everyone sees now that email confirm is still not enough.
i started locking (protecting) pages, so that only sysops and admins can edit vital sites like the main page, until a better solution has been found.

ok folks. all i basicly did this weekend was deleting spam pages and blocking bots.
http://www.stonetrip.com/developer/wiki/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&limit=500&hideminor=0
more than 200 actions of that sort. i can think of better things to do with my time. PLEASE do something about the registration issue.

currently, blocking new bages that have "Job" or "jobs" or "review" in the title would be enough. but please do something. i am close to my 500th ban/delete soon.

DeadVoxel,
thanks for recommending our solution.
=====
Update:
I removed my previous recommendations of KeyCAPTCHA
since I did not myself know at that time that KeyCAPTCHA is a scam scheme by professional spammers

...whatever you do. i generally do not like captchas at all (sacrificing accessibility and user friendliness for the sake of protection), but unless you do not want to run every page and every change through a real human being (admin/sysop, the way i would prefer it), it may be an option.

These captchas (KeyCaptchas) are puzzle-based. No more fuzzy letters.
I wouldn't have recommended them if I were unhappy using them on my websites. I get no bucks for saying this, and I insist this might be a user-friendly and safe solution.

totally. but my own phpbb forum gets overrun too. i guess the last days were a great hit for captcha crackers and spambot programmers. i wish them all a horrible and painful death.
