Real Rope

Postby shivadev » 27 Oct 2011, 18:45

Hello Everyone!

I stuck at the point where I need to make a rope which I can place then on terrain and my rope will copy the shape of my landscape. In the Hunt there was an example of dynamic rope made of small elements joined together with a ball joints. But in my case I suppose to have just one mesh, basically long tube which I then need to bend according to the terrain. I tried to do it with normal bones, but it is quite difficult since my bones are in parent-child relationships and if i change the angle on the root bone, the rest will be also rotated.

Ideally the best option would be to use ball or hinge joints on one existed mesh. But as I understood from the doc, there is no way to create such joints just with one object.

Maybe it is possible to do by deforming mesh without bones?

Any help is very appreciated!
Thanks

Hi,

I tried to do it with normal bones, but it is quite difficult since my bones are in parent-child relationships and if i change the angle on the root bone, the rest will be also rotated.

Why not parenting all bones to a same root? This way, no more hierarchy problem ;)
